If
you know your site won't be automatically rejected for one of the reasons
listed on the previous page, check the following lists for the other
criteria you have to meet. Beware . . . I'm a staunch supporter of copyright
protection so make sure your site is compliant with those criteria. |
| Design |
--- All page backgrounds,
buttons, etc are consistent throughout the site.
--- There are no missing graphics.
--- The text contrasts with the background and is easy to read.
--- Music must have a button in order to be turned off.
--- Internal links open in the same window and display the correct page.
--- External links open a new window and there are few inactive links. This
includes links from awards won.
--- Pages within the site can be navigated without using the browser "Back"
button.
--- The home page can be reached from every other page within the site.
--- Pop-ups not added with coding. Those provided by free sites are
acceptable.
--- Do not use trailing cursors.
--- Pages are completely visible and do not run off the right or left side
of the screen.
--- Encoded with a rating system such as ICRA or SafeSurf.
--- If not encoded with a rating system, the first page states the age
appropriateness of the site.
** Whether or not you have your page marked with the age appropriate tags or
statement, I will be the final judge
as to whether or not I consider your site safe to view by the
entire family.

--- The information is well organized and easy to find.
--- At least a few pages of information specific to the award. Criteria
listed on the next page.
--- Graphics, music, YouTube videos, etc are related to the topic of the
page where they appear.
--- Pages have been proofread and edited. Proper grammar, spelling, and
punctuation are important.
--- If you gather any information from visitors or provide email links, a
privacy statement is posted.
--- One page must be a copyright statement or a copyright notice is at the
bottom of each page.
--- Material can't be in violation of copyright laws.
--- A notice is posted stating if you have permission to use copyrighted
material. Use of clipart and other
material from a "free" service must still have a notice
posted about the permission to use the material.
About copyright: Things such cartoon characters, music, song lyrics, and
screenshots of other people's websites are copyrighted material. Even if you
got the material from places such as free clipart galleries or music sites,
they may not have the proper permissions to use the material. If you have
such material at your site, you must have a notice posted on the page
stating you have permission for their use. Actually get written permission first. |
