Dealing with bullies

Are you being bullied by someone at school, the playground, or even at home? It's hard to know what to do when someone bigger than you is always doing something like pushing you around, making fun of your clothes, or calling you names. And usually it's not just one kid, it's two or more kids. I know you've probably been told this by your parents, teachers, or someone else, but they do it because it makes them feel better about themselves. I know that doesn't make it any easier to take the way they treat you.
Most kids are afraid to say anything about the bullies. They're most afraid the bully will do something worse because they get into trouble for picking on the little kids. Some of them do get worse after getting punished, but most of them will stop what they're doing so they don't get into any more trouble. If you're being bullied, go tell an adult. If the first adult doesn't want to help you, talk to another one. Keep telling people until someone helps you. No matter what anyone else has told you, fighting back won't help and usually makes things far worse than if you tell an adult.
Until you can find an adult who will do something to stop the bully, you can do a few things to help yourself. You might not always be able to do some of these things, but you can use them when you can. Only go places with a few of your friends because a bully might like to pick on kids if they think the kids will "gang up" on them. Try to avoid the places the bully hangs out. Only walk or play in places where there are adults or older kids who aren't bullies or allow bullies to pick on the other kids. If the bully keeps following you to the places you go so they can pick on you, hang out at your house or where your friends live. Sure, the bully might call you a "chicken" or a worse name, but it's better for you to be safe.
More than anything else, if the bully tells you to do something and they'll stop picking on you ... don't do it. They either want you to do something they don't want to get into trouble for or they want you to become just like them. Don't change the way you talk, dress, or act just to get a bully to stop pushing you around. Bullies want everyone in the world to be just like them. Be yourself.

I know I probably didn't do a very good job at explaining to you how to deal with bullies. This link is to a web site's page about bullies ... http://kidshealth.org/kid/grow/school_stuff/bullies.html . The rest of the site is full of good information for kids.
