Some of my other pages explain how my book series is different from other
crime novels. It's possible that you're sitting there wondering why I talk
so much about the various things which I believe make my stories unique. The
main reason is so I can give anyone who is thinking about writing a novel
some ideas about how to take old topics and plots and create something new.
The saying that there's "nothing new under the sun" is true. What's also
true is the fact that writers have always found ways to create new and
exciting stories around old themes and topics.
When I sat thinking about how I could've possibly
created anything new, I came to the conclusion that I did because my stories
are told through the filters of my experiences, beliefs, and ideals. These
things all lead me to view the world from a unique perspective. In other
words, my stories are told in a way which shows the world through my eyes.
My stories are a reflection of what I feel is right and wrong in the world
around me. Anyone reading my novels can disagree with my conclusions about
any or all of the situations, yet I can't write anything which is contrary
to my thinking. In my mind, that would be lying to myself and other people.
I used to be a complete pessimist. Over time, I've
become more of an optimist. While there are a lot of bad things happening in
this world, I try to find something positive. I can see the good being done
by some people, not just the crime and war. I see people who can really love
other people, not just the hatred and abuse. The bad things we can see every
time we turn on the news. We have to watch the people around us to see the
good. My stories reflect the goodness I see around me.
Some people who read my novels might think I'm too much
of an optimist and that some of my characters act in ways which are too good
to be true. However, through my eyes, they act in ways which are entirely
possible. Then again, maybe I am too much of an optimist. When you read my
stories, you get a glimpse of the world through my eyes. |
